Garmin dēzl OTR1000 Features—The Tech Behind the Performance
Custom Truck Routing Based on Vehicle Specifications
When hauling oversized loads or navigating tricky roads, every inch of clearance matters. The Garmin dēzl OTR1000 delivers with custom truck routing based on your vehicle’s dimensions, weight, and cargo type. This feature eliminates the guesswork, preventing you from encountering obstacles like low bridges, narrow streets, or weight-restricted routes. By inputting your truck’s specifications, you’ll receive a tailored route, keeping you on highways and roads designed to handle your rig’s specific needs.
The custom routing system also integrates truck-specific POIs (Points of Interest), giving you direct access to truck stops, rest areas, and parking spots. Forget scrambling to find a safe place to rest—dēzl OTR1000 helps plan every detail of your trip for smooth sailing.
Large 10-inch Touchscreen with Split-Screen Capability
One of the standout features of the dēzl OTR1000 is its massive 10-inch high-resolution touchscreen. The screen isn’t just large—it’s designed with truckers in mind. Offering a clear, easy-to-read display, this GPS ensures you can check maps, routes, and notifications at a glance, even during night drives or in bad weather conditions.
But it doesn’t stop there: the split-screen capability allows drivers to view the map on one side while receiving other important information—like upcoming stops or live traffic updates—on the other. This feature is ideal for truckers juggling multiple tasks, keeping critical information at their fingertips without losing focus on the road ahead.
Real-Time Traffic and Weather Alerts
Time is money, especially in the trucking industry. The dēzl OTR1000 makes sure you’re always in the loop with real-time traffic updates and live weather alerts. You’ll avoid unexpected delays caused by accidents, road closures, or extreme weather conditions, and adjust your route accordingly.
With the built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, the device automatically updates itself without the need for cables or computers, ensuring you always have the latest maps and traffic data. This feature is a game-changer for long-distance truckers, where detours can mean the difference between an on-time delivery and missed deadlines.
Garmin dēzl OTR1000 Benefits—Why It’s a Trucker’s Best Friend
Improved Efficiency and Reduced Downtime
Time spent rerouting or navigating tricky areas can eat into your driving hours, making it harder to stay on schedule. The Garmin dēzl OTR1000 helps drivers reduce downtime by providing highly accurate and optimized routes. This doesn’t just save time—it cuts down on fuel costs, too. By avoiding low-speed zones or congested roads, drivers can maintain a steady pace, lowering overall fuel consumption and wear on the vehicle.

With features like hazardous materials alerts and low-clearance warnings, you’ll never be caught off guard. The device warns you ahead of time about road conditions and restrictions, preventing costly mistakes like entering weight-restricted zones or encountering impassable bridges.
Moreover, voice-activated navigation lets drivers stay hands-free, allowing them to keep their eyes on the road while receiving spoken directions. Combined with driver fatigue warnings that alert you when it’s time to take a break, the dēzl OTR1000 promotes safer driving habits for long-haul truckers.
How to Maximize the Garmin dēzl OTR1000 for Your Business

With this feature, you can remain compliant with federal regulations while optimizing your schedule to get the most driving time out of your day.
Syncing the Device with Your Smartphone for Extra Functionality
For added convenience, the Garmin dēzl OTR1000 pairs seamlessly with the Garmin Drive™ app, enabling truckers to sync routes and get live updates directly from their smartphone. Top Reviews
I have a small trucking business. I use this GPS for the 18-wheeler truck. I have been around a company GPS and this one by far is a great GPS. I have used it thus for 3 months and this GPS has not led me wrong. Especially rolling over the road. This GPS has not brought me down roads that I I would regret later. It keeps you on the familiar trucking routes. The night time lights on it are very visible. You can adjust your route and so many other things. It will let you know where all of the rest stops are all of the popular rest stops are. I have no complaints as being a owner operator with this GPS.
After almost a year of using this, I have come to a final conclusion that this thing sucks! Not the unit itself, but Garmin and their 'programmers' who program this thing with SUPPOSED truck routes! It AVOIDS routes that trucks ARE ALLOWED to use, and sends you down roads that trucks ARE NOT supposed to use! I use this in the northeast, mainly NY and PA, and it's all but useless outside of main interstates! I don't know why it's so hard to accurately program a GPS with truck routes but apparently it's beyond the capabilities of the geniuses at Garmin. I mean if you can't trust the leader in GPS navigation, who CAN you trust? I've had even worse results with Rand McNally. Is it that they just don't care about the northeast? Or is it this way across the whole country? I have completely lost faith in Garmin, this wasn't cheap and now I'm stuck with it. Gee, sure looks pretty though... I left my original review below, which was initially positive, but having used this for a while now, Garmin has shown their true colors, even with the latest updates!
Below is my original review. I do NOT feel this way anymore.
Let's face it, trucker GPS's primary purpose is to make money for the manufacturers. Hard truth but it is the truth. I have had many over the years including trucker navigation software for my laptop. Most have been horrible, even if used for a car! I recently used CoPilot for my cell phone, and though it seemed almost ok, it was not very easy to use and lacked many features you'd expect to be available. In 2014 I bought a Rand McNally tablet truck GPS and was highly disappointed. Then I tried a Garmin Dezl 770 with marginally acceptable results, basically, it was good enough to remind me of a turn coming up on the route that I had to 'build' to the point of just not using it anymore, the mount sucked (couldn't be tightened, wouldn't stay straight), another disappointment. I had no idea what direction to go for my next trucker GPS and did a lot of research and read and watched many reviews on the OTR Series tablet GPS units for trucks.
Most people are still saying avoid the Rand McNally's, they're still junk both in quality and functionality, which really surprises me since they publish the Bible of a Trucker Atlas. Apparently, the atlas division doesn't speak to the GPS division...
So after MUCH intense research well into the night, I decided to take a chance on the Dezl OTR1000 model.
The good: almost everything! You can now FINALLY update the thing without hooking it up to a computer! Magnetic mount (stroooong too), can use in portrait or landscape, the mount is heavy duty, well made, the unit is quite loud (many complained about this so they must have fixed the issue), the screen is amazing and it processes routes quicker than any GPS I've ever used. There's just too much to add. It works, got it this morning and spent all day (it's now 2:30 am) running it through my tests. It actually knows where to go! So far so good. I'll update this review in a month or so after I've actually used it in the truck. I love how you can send directions (I use actual coordinates copied from Google Maps) directly to the GPS in seconds.
The bad: it runs Android 6...really? 6? This means good luck finding any apps that will even download onto it. And WHAT GPS DOESN'T COME WITH A CALCULATOR? Most of us aren't mathematicians but we don't have to be, but come on man, we DO use numbers daily.
Overall, at this point, I'm very happy with it and I think it actually knows where my truck should or should not be. I'll update this later. For now, while pricey and no, I don't think any piece of plastic is worth that kind of money, I would recommend this.
I'm not exactly fond of giant screens in my windshield, neither is the DOT, so this unit was perfect. Plugged it in at home, updated it and the whole process went smoothly. I downloaded the Garmin dezl app, make sure that you don't try to use the Garmin drive app, it doesn't work with this unit, and that connected instantly too. Bluetooth and WiFi capabilities helped that process too.
As far as features, this little gem is packed. Everything you need to navigate your route with some nice touches to enhance that experience as well. There are far too many to get into here but YouTube the unit and you'll some good videos from professional drivers to help explain them.
I've used it for a week as of this writing and have nothing at all to complain about. Intuitive interface, great customization features, and directions/routing are spot-on.
All-in-all, great unit at a great price for what you get. Just one thing though, buy the Gamin dash mount for this unit. That thing that comes in the box will not withstand the vibrations and bumps that are commonplace with big trucks. You'll thank yourself later!
